President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, including Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, aimed to address the recent leadership crisis in the Assembly.
The crisis began on January 13, 2025, when Obasa was removed as Lagos speaker by more than two-thirds of the 40-member house, citing alleged misconduct and sundry offenses.
Meranda, Obasa’s then-deputy, was elected as the new Speaker, becoming the first female to hold the position in the South-West state.
However, after weeks of leadership tussle, Obasa was re-elected as the Speaker on March 3, following Meranda’s resignation.
Meranda was subsequently re-elected as the Assembly’s Deputy Speaker.
According to sources, the meeting with Tinubu has resolved the leadership crisis, with lawmakers singing and hailing the president after the meeting. An official statement is yet to be released.
