The Faculty of Medicine at Menoufia University, Egypt, announced on Thursday the suspension of four professors following the tragic death of medical student Iman Diab, just hours after she completed an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) exam.
In an official statement, the university confirmed that its president, Ahmed Al-Qased, had ordered the suspension of the head of the ENT department along with three other faculty members for three months, pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation. The decision aligns with general university regulations and the Universities Organization Law.

The suspension followed a complaint from fifth-year medical students regarding the difficulty of the ENT exam and concerns surrounding the circumstances of Diab’s death. A memorandum submitted by Dr. Mohamed Al-Noamani, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, detailed the incident and included student grievances.
The Faculty of Medicine Council emphasized its commitment to upholding academic integrity and student welfare, assuring that regulations would be applied with fairness and transparency. It also pledged to keep the university community informed of the investigation’s progress and outcome.
Diab passed away days after suffering a severe brain hemorrhage, just hours after taking the ENT exam. Her death has sparked widespread outrage within the university community and across social media, with some attributing it to the intense difficulty of the exam, which her family claims led to severe distress.
Following the incident, the Faculty of Medicine acknowledged receiving a formal complaint from fifth-year students through the student union and reiterated that a full investigation is underway.TT
