Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, revealed that the agreement will be presented to both parliaments for ratification in the coming weeks. Alongside the visa waiver initiative, the two countries have pledged to deepen cooperation in agribusiness, tourism, and security following discussions between Ablakwa and Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil.

Addressing recent social media claims of violence against Africans in Morocco, Ablakwa stated that the ambassador dismissed reports alleging the deaths of 700 Africans. He clarified that the widely circulated video originated from a June 2022 border incident that resulted in 23 fatalities, with no Ghanaian casualties recorded.

In a further boost to bilateral ties, Morocco has doubled its annual scholarship allocation for Ghanaian students, increasing the number from 90 to 180.

Separately, Ablakwa held talks with Russia’s Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov, to discuss bilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to neutrality and its role as a proponent of global peace.
