Angola has expressed its support for South Africa’s presidency of the G20, pledging to work closely with the country to promote African interests and priorities.
Francisco José da Cruz, Angola’s permanent representative at the UN, made the commitment during a briefing at the UN General Assembly, where he emphasized the importance of ensuring that the voices and priorities of the Global South are reflected in the G20’s discussions and decisions.
Angola’s support is seen as a significant boost to South Africa’s presidency, which aims to promote global economic stability and address pressing issues such as economic progress, food security, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation.
The G20 presidency is a historic achievement for the African continent, and Angola’s backing reinforces confidence in South Africa’s ability to promote the G20 agenda.
As part of its commitment, Angola has pledged to work with South Africa to promote African positions within the G20, advocating for industrialization, job creation, debt sustainability, and a fair energy transition for developing nations.
Angola has also reaffirmed its commitment to working with other African countries to ensure that the continent’s strategic interests are promoted in multilateral forums.
