Super Falcons forward Gift Monday has completed a move to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Washington Spirit from Spanish top-flight club UD Tenerife. The Nigerian forward signed a three-year contract, with the deal including a team option for 2028.

Washington Spirit announced the signing on Tuesday after activating her release clause, which Spanish news outlet MARCA reports to be around €200,000.
“The Washington Spirit has signed Nigerian forward Gift Monday to a three-year deal with a 2028 team option in a transfer from Spain’s UD Tenerife,” the club stated. “The move involved a transfer fee paid to UD Tenerife by the Spirit.”
Spirit head coach Jonathan Giráldez expressed excitement over the new signing, stating, “Gift has unique qualities as a forward and will add a new layer to our attacking third. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team in the near future.”

Monday joins the NWSL side after spending two and a half seasons in Spain, where she impressed in the 2024/25 season, scoring 10 league goals and providing three assists in 19 matches.
Before her time at Tenerife, Monday played for Nigerian clubs FC Robo and COD United Amazons. She gained prominence in 2012 after winning the Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) Golden Boot as the league’s top scorer.
Expressing her enthusiasm about the move, Monday said, “I am excited to join the Washington Spirit family, as I have long wanted to play for the club.”
