Sevilla have been dealt a significant blow in their relegation battle as Nigerian striker Akor Adams has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season due to a serious thigh injury.
The 25-year-old forward sustained a rectus femoris muscle injury in his right thigh during the club’s 2-1 defeat to Atlético Madrid on Sunday. Sevilla confirmed on Wednesday that Adams will begin his rehabilitation process immediately, with a minimum recovery period of two months — effectively bringing his debut La Liga campaign to a premature end.

Adams joined Sevilla from French side Montpellier in January for a reported €5.5 million fee, arriving with hopes of boosting the Andalusian club’s goal-shy attack. However, his time in Spain has been marred by fitness issues and limited opportunities.
He made his debut on February 1 in a goalless draw against Getafe but picked up an injury shortly after, which sidelined him for over a month. Since returning to action, Adams has featured only three times — against Athletic Bilbao, Real Betis, and Atlético Madrid — without registering a goal or assist.
In total, the former Flying Eagles star has made just four La Liga appearances for Sevilla, starting once and coming off the bench on three occasions. His most recent outing — the full 90 minutes against Atlético — sadly resulted in the injury that has now ruled him out.
Before his move to Spain, Adams made 47 Ligue 1 appearances for Montpellier, scoring 11 goals and contributing two assists. He was expected to bring a physical presence and a goal threat to a struggling Sevilla side, but injuries have significantly disrupted his impact.

The blow comes as Sevilla continues to grapple with a deepening injury crisis. Fellow January signing Rubén Vargas is also out for the rest of the season after picking up an injury in the same match against Atlético Madrid.
Despite these setbacks, Sevilla remain eight points clear of the relegation zone, aided by favourable results elsewhere — including a crucial draw between Leganés and Osasuna.
With key players sidelined, manager Quique Sánchez Flores faces a challenging task in steering the team to safety in the final stretch of the season.
