Tunisia has released 11 Russian tourists who were detained last November on suspicion of terrorism after finding them near the country’s border with Algeria, where they were allegedly visiting Roman monuments.
Tunisian authorities had confiscated equipment that didn’t match their claimed tourist purposes, raising suspicions about their activities.
Although they were held on suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities, they weren’t formally charged.
The Russian embassy confirmed their release, stating that tickets had been purchased for their return to Russia on two flights scheduled for the same day.
