The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has officially released its Notice of Election, marking the start of the electoral process for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions across Lagos State’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs), 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and 376 wards.

The announcement was made in a statement by LASIEC’s spokesperson, Ojo Tope Stephen, on Friday. The move comes in line with Section 21(I) of the LASIEC Law of 2008 (as amended) and signals the end of the current local government administration’s tenure.

According to the notice, local council elections will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, with a possible run-off or rerun scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025.

LASIEC has called on all registered political parties to collect nominations and other necessary forms for their candidates from the Commission’s headquarters.

Key Dates in the LASIEC Electoral Calendar:

  • Tuesday, April 15, 2025 – LASIEC meeting with registered political parties
  • Thursday, April 17, 2025 – Publication of election guidelines
  • Friday, April 18, 2025 – Commencement of political campaigns and rallies
  • Wednesday, June 18 to Wednesday, June 25, 2025 – Submission of nomination forms for substituted and sole candidates
  • Wednesday, July 9, 2025 – Final day for campaigns

LASIEC Chairman, Hon. Justice Ayotunde Phillips (rtd), emphasized the Commission’s commitment to delivering free, fair, inclusive, and credible elections in accordance with global democratic standards.

She urged all political parties and aspirants to adhere strictly to the electoral timetable and guidelines to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
