A high-security prison in Chad’s central region was the scene of a violent rebellion on Friday, resulting in the escape of over 100 inmates.

The incident occurred in the town of Mongo, located in the Guera province, and left three people dead and several others injured, including a state governor who was visiting the site.

According to local officials, the inmates managed to access a manager’s office and seize firearms, sparking a shoot-out that led to the fatalities and injuries.

The exact number of escaped inmates is unclear, with estimates ranging from 100 to 132.

The province’s secretary general, Hassan Souleymane Adam, confirmed the incident, stating that approximately 100 individuals had escaped, and efforts were underway to recapture them.

The incident highlights concerns about prison security in Chad and the potential risks posed by the escaped inmates.
