Air Peace has announced the immediate suspension of all its flight operations across Nigeria due to the ongoing industrial action by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the airline said the decision was driven by safety concerns, particularly as NiMet’s Current Nowcast of Hazardous Weather (CNH) reports are critical for ensuring safe landings during the rainy season.

“Due to the ongoing strike by NiMet, Air Peace is suspending all flight operations nationwide with immediate effect,” the statement read. “NiMet is responsible for issuing CNH reports, which are essential for flight safety amid frequent thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Without access to this data at control towers, we cannot guarantee safe operations.”

Describing itself as a “safety-first airline,” Air Peace stated that it could not, in good conscience, continue operations without the necessary weather intelligence.

The airline acknowledged the inconvenience this move may cause passengers and assured them of updates and rescheduling options.

NiMet, which provides vital real-time weather data to the aviation industry, began its strike earlier this week, severely disrupting meteorological services at airports nationwide.

Air Peace appealed for patience and understanding from its customers while reaffirming its commitment to putting lives and safety above all else.
