In a significant political shake-up, the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside several prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in a statement by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who described the mass defection as a landmark development for the party.

“The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, under the leadership of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, is highly elated by the decision of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to join our great party,” the statement read.

The defection includes a wave of high-profile PDP figures—former vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, senior government officials, state legislators, local government chairmen, councillors, and a broad base of grassroots supporters—signaling a major political realignment in Delta State.
Morka assured the defectors of full integration and cooperation within the APC structure.

“We warmly welcome this development and assure Governor Oborevwori, former Governor Okowa, and all incoming leaders of our complete support and inclusion in the APC family,” he said.
The APC also emphasized the broader national impact of the move, stating that Delta State is now positioned to play a greater role in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“With this shift, Delta is well-placed to contribute significantly to national progress and the prosperity of all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
