The Tunisian coast guard on Monday recovered the bodies of eight African migrants after their boat sank off the country’s coast during an attempted journey to Europe, a security official confirmed to Reuters.
The vessel capsized off the shores of Abwabed, near the city of Sfax — a region that has become a frequent departure point for migrants aiming to cross the Mediterranean.

According to Houssem Eddine Jebabli, a national guard official, 29 people were successfully rescued, and search operations continue for any missing passengers.
Tunisia is currently facing a surge in migration attempts, with the country overtaking Libya as the leading departure hub for migrants from across Africa hoping for a better future in Europe.
