Members of the Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have commenced a three-day warning strike starting May 6, 2025.
The strike follows an emergency congress meeting where the doctors expressed their discontent over the dismissal of 127 health workers by the FCT Civil Service Commission without proper consideration.
The doctors are demanding the immediate reinstatement of the affected workers, prompt payment of their April salaries, and the resignation of the chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh.
If their demands are not met within three days, the doctors have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike, which would shut down hospitals in the nation’s capital.
The doctors described the dismissals as “inhumane and illegal,” emphasizing that the affected workers are not ghost workers but dedicated healthcare professionals still working in the system.
