Olugbenga Edema, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate in the 2024 Ondo State governorship election, has resigned from the party citing internal wranglings and rancour that have plagued the party since he joined in June 2024.
In his resignation letter dated May 9, 2025, Edema expressed disappointment with the party’s leadership, which he claimed had frustrated his case in court against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate by withdrawing from the suit.
Edema, who had defected to NNPP after losing the APC primary election, stated that the party’s activities negated the ethos of political parties and that its objective seemed different from winning elections.
He noted that he could no longer continue with the party, having been in active politics for over 35 years and never seen a party with such treacherous leadership.
