The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has received 13 trafficked Nigerians, comprising 12 girls and a five-year-old boy, from Ghana and Mali.
The victims claimed they were tricked and forced into prostitution under the guise of getting jobs in the two countries.
They also narrated how they were sexually abused, physically assaulted, and emotionally traumatized by their traffickers.
NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, assured the victims that the commission would provide logistics to reunite them with their families and work with their respective state governors to rehabilitate them.
She also called for the crackdown on human traffickers and agents, advocating for their prosecution and public shaming to curb modern-day slavery.
The victims were later taken to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for profiling and documentation.
