Bandits have launched a deadly attack on the Gobirawa Community in Kuki ward of Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing at least 19 residents and abducting an unspecified number of people, mostly women, children, and the elderly.

The attackers, believed to have come from the neighboring Danmusa forest, stormed the community around 9 pm on Saturday, shooting sporadically and killing several residents on the spot.

Eyewitness Sani Abdullahi Kuki reported that over 20 houses and all shops in the area were razed by the attackers, and many residents were evacuated to safer places in 20 vehicles.

Some residents who hid inside grain silos were set ablaze, and their remains were recovered the following morning.

The victims were taken to Dutsinma General Hospital and Katsina Hospital for treatment.

The community is calling for increased security presence, as the hoodlums fled upon sighting an approaching Armoured Protective Carrier Vehicle.

“We are calling on relevant authorities to assist us, please, as war is coming closer to the local government headquarters,” Kuki appealed.
