The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has unveiled the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Unity Cup clash against Ghana, with star forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman noticeably absent from the list.
Osimhen, fresh off a Turkish Super Lig title triumph with Galatasaray, and Lookman, who played a key role in Atalanta’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League, have been omitted from the squad for both the Unity Cup and the subsequent international friendly against Russia on June 6.

According to sources close to the NFF, the duo has been granted rest following an intense club season.

Despite their absence, Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye returns to the fold after missing Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. He will compete with Stanley Nwabali—Nigeria’s standout performer at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations—for the starting goalkeeper spot.

The Super Eagles are set to face arch-rivals Ghana between May 27 and 31 as part of the Unity Cup series, before traveling to play Russia in a high-profile friendly match.
