The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned calls for the resignation of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, over technical issues encountered during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described the demands as “callous, ridiculous, and unpatriotic,” asserting that they reflect “parochial and tribal sentiments devoid of critical reasoning.”

The calls for Oloyede’s resignation followed reported glitches during the examination in some regions, prompting criticism and a lawsuit threat from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

The South East caucus of the House of Representatives also weighed in, demanding Oloyede’s resignation.

However, MURIC argues that these demands ignore Oloyede’s transformative impact on JAMB, citing his record in overhauling the institution’s finances and operations.

MURIC encouraged Oloyede to ignore detractors, whom it described as “academic charlatans, political shenanigans, and ethnic demagogues,” and urged him to stay the course, saying, “Strive on in the glorious path you have chosen. Resignation will send the wrong signal to good Nigerians who consider you their model.”
