A private jet carrying Liberian President Joseph Boakai experienced a rough landing at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) on Thursday night due to a malfunction in the landing gear, specifically a burst tyre.
Although the president was safely evacuated unharmed, the incident sparked panic and forced the cancellation of all scheduled flights for the night.
The Liberia Airport Authority confirmed the “unfortunate near-accident situation” and assured that the runway infrastructure meets international aviation safety standards.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, and normal airport operations have since resumed.
