Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been forced to postpone the first leg of their much-anticipated international friendly against Cameroon, originally scheduled for Saturday (today), following the delayed arrival of the Indomitable Lionesses.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the postponement on Friday night through the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Super Falcons.
The friendly match was slated to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, and was designed as the first in a two-leg series to kickstart Nigeria’s preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will now be held in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.

However, logistical difficulties and travel hitches meant Cameroon’s team arrived in Nigeria late Friday, leaving no time for proper rest or completion of pre-match formalities. As a result, organisers cancelled the opener, meaning only one match will be played between the two African giants.
That lone fixture, initially set for Tuesday, June 3, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, has now been brought forward to Monday, June 2. The friendlies were expected to mark the Super Falcons’ return to international action following their narrow 2-1 defeat to France in a November 2024 friendly.

Nigeria, Africa’s most successful women’s football team with nine WAFCON titles, are using the build-up to prepare for tough Group B opposition at the upcoming continental showpiece, where they’ll face Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.
With a legacy of reaching every WAFCON semi-final since the tournament’s inception in 1991, the Super Falcons will be aiming to maintain that impressive record as they chase a 10th continental crown.
