One of the men accused of murdering former African National Congress Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa has pleaded guilty to the crime.
Sibusiso Ncengwa made the admission in the Pietermaritzburg High Court in KwaZulu-Natal, seven years after Magaqa’s death.
Magaqa, who was also a local councillor in Umzimkhulu Local Municipality, was shot in July 2017 and succumbed to his injuries in September 2017.
Ncengwa not only admitted to Magaqa’s murder but also confessed to attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and joint unlawful possession of a firearm.
The court convicted Ncengwa based on his admissions, and his sentencing has been postponed to June 30, 2025.
His co-accused, Sbonelo Myeza and Mbulelo Mpofana, will return to court on June 19, 2025, for a new indictment to be served.
