A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja has granted bail to suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the sum of N50 million.
The court rejected the Federal Government’s application to remand the senator in prison custody pending the determination of the case against her.
Justice Chizoba Orji held that there was sufficient evidence that Akpoti-Uduaghan is willing to face her trial, and therefore, granted her bail.
The court also ordered Akpoti-Uduaghan to produce one surety who must be a person of integrity owning a landed property in Abuja. The case was adjourned till September 23 for trial.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was arraigned on a three-count charge of making false and defamatory remarks against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
