The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has evacuated its members from crisis-ridden communities in Benue State, specifically Yelwata and Daudu, to safer locations in Makurdi, the state capital.
This move follows renewed attacks that left approximately 200 people dead and many more displaced.
NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, confirmed that the evacuation was carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, with corps members relocated to secure shelters, including family residences and association offices.
Garba assured parents that their children are safe and receiving good care, urging the public for spiritual support during this challenging time.
The evacuation comes after President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Makurdi, where he directed security agencies to restore peace in the affected communities and bring perpetrators of the violence to justice.
The NYSC has reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitor the situation and prioritize the safety and welfare of its corps members.
Mrs. Garba attributed the prompt evacuation to the appointment of new security chiefs in the state, expressing optimism that the situation will improve under their leadership. She urged parents to remain calm, assuring them that their children are well cared for.
