The Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago Tafida III, has shut down the town’s weekly Tuesday market in honor of Abdulwahab Jafar, a 200-level student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL) who was murdered in his off-campus residence.
The Emir announced the decision during an emergency meeting with university officials, student union leaders, and community stakeholders, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident and assuring the university community of his commitment to enhancing safety and well-being.
The killing sparked protests among students, who demanded justice and improved security, leading to the university’s shutdown and a police investigation.
The Emir cautioned against individuals aiding or harboring criminal elements in Lapai and vowed to take decisive measures to address security concerns.
