In a strategic move to win back customers and boost engagement, MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50% reduction in the price of its DStv decoder — cutting the cost from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.

The company announced on Tuesday, noting that the decision aligns with efforts to reward customer loyalty and offer greater value amid rising economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, said the price cut is part of the ongoing “We Got You” campaign, which aims to position DStv as a daily entertainment solution beyond just sports content.

“We want our customers to feel appreciated and to have consistent access to quality entertainment,” Ugbe said in a statement. “This campaign is about showing that DStv has something for everyone – from movies and dramas to kids’ shows and news.”

In addition to the decoder price slash, MultiChoice also announced a limited-time promotional offer. Between June 16 and July 31, 2025, customers who pay for their current DStv subscription in full will automatically be upgraded to the next higher package tier at no extra cost.

The company said these measures are a direct response to the financial strain many Nigerians are currently facing. “This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” the statement added.

The new initiative follows a tough period for MultiChoice Nigeria, which lost approximately 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025. The decline has been partly attributed to multiple subscription price increases — first in April 2023, then November 2023, and a third in April 2024, which took effect on May 1.

By introducing more affordable access and added incentives, the company hopes to reverse the decline and re-establish its platform as a value-driven option for everyday entertainment.
