Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa on an official state visit at the invitation of Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali.

During his visit, Shettima will participate in the official launch of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Programme — a major environmental initiative aimed at combating deforestation, promoting biodiversity, and addressing the impact of climate change. The programme targets the planting of 20 billion tree seedlings over four years.

Beyond environmental collaboration, the visit will also focus on deepening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ethiopia in key sectors, particularly agriculture and industrial development.

As part of his itinerary, the Vice President will tour select industrial zones and integrated agricultural hubs across Ethiopia to explore potential partnerships and opportunities for knowledge exchange.

Nigeria and Ethiopia maintain a long-standing diplomatic relationship, with cooperation spanning military support, regional peacekeeping, and economic development. This visit is expected to further reinforce the strategic partnership between the two African nations.
