Nigeria’s Super Falcons have arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, as they gear up for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The team touched down in Morocco’s commercial capital on Wednesday night from Lisbon, Portugal, where they concluded their final preparations for the tournament.

The Nigerian delegation includes 22 players and team officials, with China-based forward Folashade Ijamilusi and U.S.-based star Asisat Oshoala already in Casablanca ahead of the team’s arrival.

The nine-time African champions wrapped up their pre-tournament preparations with a solid performance against Portugal on Monday, holding the hosts to a goalless draw at Estádio José Gomes in Lisbon. Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Shukurat Oladipo, and veteran forward Francisca Ordega were standout performers in the hard-fought friendly.

The Falcons begin their WAFCON journey on Sunday, July 6, against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. They will also face Botswana and Algeria in the group stage.

Nigeria boasts an illustrious history in the competition, having won the tournament nine times—in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018. They have reached at least the semi-final stage in every edition since the competition’s inception in 1998, including in 2008, 2012, and the most recent edition in 2022.

The team, led by head coach Justin Magudu will be aiming to reclaim the continental crown and extend their dominance in African women’s football.
