President Bola Tinubu and Prime Minister Philip Pierre of Saint Lucia have committed to establishing formal diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the Caribbean nation.
During Tinubu’s courtesy visit to Pierre’s official residence in Castries, both leaders emphasized the need for cooperation, particularly amidst shifting global alliances and power dynamics.
Tinubu highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Africans and Caribbeans, stating, “We are determined to nurture and expand this relationship.”
The president noted that strengthening bilateral engagement would enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, education, and cultural exchange.
Pierre identified key areas for collaboration, including agriculture, health, and physical infrastructure, and praised Saint Lucia’s cultural festivals, like the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, as potential areas for mutual benefit.
Both leaders also discussed leveraging their Commonwealth membership as a platform for collaboration.
