The government of Saint Lucia has conferred President Bola Tinubu with the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL), the country’s highest national honour.
The conferment recognizes Tinubu’s exceptional leadership on the African continent, commitment to advancing South-South cooperation, and efforts at rekindling cultural, historical, and diplomatic ties with the Caribbean.
During his visit to Saint Lucia, Tinubu emphasized the shared destiny of Africans and people of African origin, highlighting the need for collaboration towards a prosperous future.
He expressed his administration’s determination to nurture and expand bilateral relations on trade, investment, tourism, education, and cultural exchange.
The honor is part of a broader diplomatic engagement, with Saint Lucia agreeing to formalize diplomatic relations with Nigeria and establish a structured framework for cooperation.
The two countries have also agreed to establish a visa waiver arrangement for holders of diplomatic and official passports from OECS member states.
Additionally, Nigeria will provide scholarships to citizens of OECS member countries and extend the services of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (TAC) to OECS countries.
