The Labour Party’s Julius Abure-led faction has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to former presidential candidate Peter Obi to resign from the party.
This decision follows Obi’s recent alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition, which the Labour Party views as incompatible with its values.
According to Obiora Ifoh, National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, the coalition comprises “power mongers” and “recycled, frustrated politicians” who are only interested in regaining power.
Ifoh emphasized that the Labour Party won’t tolerate dual allegiances, stating that members involved in the coalition must resign within 48 hours.
Obi had announced his support for the ADC-led coalition, citing the need for a united opposition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
The coalition includes prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and David Mark.
