A three-storey building collapsed on Lagos Island, injuring several occupants.
The incident occurred on Asesi Lane around Adeniji Adele Road in the early hours of Thursday.
Four people were rescued from the rubble and taken to the hospital for treatment, according to Lagos State Information Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other agencies quickly arrived at the scene to rescue those trapped.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, but structural failures and aging buildings are common concerns in the area.
LASEMA personnel have cordoned off the site and are working to ensure the area is safe.
This recent incident highlights the growing concern of building collapses in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos.
According to the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the country recorded 22 building collapses between January and July 2024, with Lagos accounting for 27.27% of the cases.
Experts are calling for stricter regulatory measures to prevent such incidents.
