The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped one position in the latest FIFA world rankings, moving from 43rd to 44th despite a string of positive results during the period under review.

The rankings, released on Thursday by the world football governing body, reflect matches played through June 2025, including Nigeria’s participation in the Unity Cup Invitational Tournament, where the Super Eagles defeated Ghana 2-1 and edged Jamaica on penalties to lift the trophy. The team also secured a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Russia in Moscow.

Despite the slip in global placement, Nigeria gained three additional ranking points, improving from 1441 to 1444. The modest rise in points was, however, not enough to prevent a global drop by one spot.

On the continental level, there was some good news. Nigeria climbed to fifth place in Africa, overtaking reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions Cote d’Ivoire, who fell from 41st to 45th globally.

Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team at 12th in the world, followed by Senegal (18th), Egypt (34th), and Algeria (36th).

Globally, world champions Argentina held on to the top spot, with Spain, France, England, and Brazil rounding out the top five.
