The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, has inaugurated two Local Government Election Appeal Tribunals to handle petitions arising from Saturday’s polls.
Each tribunal will sit concurrently on Lagos Island and in Ikeja, and is composed of four magistrates led by a retired High Court judge.
Justice Taofikat Oyinkan-Abdullahi (retd.) will chair the Lagos Island panel, which includes Magistrates Michael Olubi, Olaitan Ajayi, Salamah Matepo, and Hotepo Lazarus.

The Ikeja tribunal will be chaired by Justice Sherifah Solebo (retd.), with Magistrates Davies Rasak, Oluwatosin Fowowe-Erusiafe, Adepeju Odusanya, and Lynda Balogun serving as members.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Ikeja High Court Conference Room on Friday, Justice Alogba urged tribunal members to discharge their duties with “utmost integrity, fairness, and fidelity to the law.”
He reminded the panel members of the legal timelines established by the 2016 amendment to the Lagos State Local Government Law, which stipulates that election petitions must be filed within 21 days after results are declared, and tribunal hearings concluded within 45 days.

“Any decision or action taken outside the legally prescribed time limit is a nullity and of no legal effect,” Justice Alogba cautioned.
He emphasized that the appointments were made based on the tribunal members’ character, experience, and sound judgment, and charged them to resist bias or intimidation while upholding the principles of justice.
“Lagos State Judiciary is known for its integrity and as a torchbearer in the nation’s judicial system,” he stated. “I urge you to put in your best so that the outcomes of your rulings earn public respect and confidence.”
Justice Alogba acknowledged that not everyone would accept tribunal decisions, but stressed that fairness and legal correctness must guide the process.
