A roadside bomb blast has killed three Kenyan soldiers patrolling a road in eastern Kenya near the Somali border.
The attack occurred on Tuesday morning when the patrol hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the road between Sankuri and Kiunga, a coastal town 12 km from the Somali border.
Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked Islamist group, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that at least two Kenyan soldiers were killed and others wounded.
The Kenya Defence Forces confirmed the incident, saying the soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the country’s borders.
The military has launched an investigation into the attack and is working to identify those responsible.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, where Al-Shabaab continues to carry out attacks on military and civilian targets.
