A police inspector, identified as Okechukwu Ezema, and a civilian were shot dead in Anambra State after the officer was reportedly caught robbing Point of Sale (POS) operators in a community.
According to reports, Ezema and his colleagues had allegedly formed a habit of terrorizing POS business operators in the area, using the guise of carrying out arrests to extort money from them.
The incident occurred on Thursday, July 17, 2025, along Orodo Road after Umueze Nwaoriubi, when angry youths apprehended the inspector during one of his alleged robbery operations.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows two lifeless bodies lying on the ground with visible bloodstains around them.
The police statement claimed that Ezema and two constables who escaped were en route to carry out an arrest when they were attacked, but community sources alleged that the deceased officer and his colleagues were notorious for targeting POS operators and forcefully collecting cash from them.
