A devastating explosion occurred when a petroleum tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) lost control and crashed at Celica junction on the new Ife Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker, which was unable to brake due to a failure in its braking system, hit a Prado jeep and another car before falling and catching fire.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, but the fire damaged the car and the Prado jeep.
The Oyo State Fire Service confirmed the incident and praised the swift response of its firefighters, who used chemical foam compound to restrict the fire from spreading to a nearby Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation petrol station and surrounding properties.
The fire was jointly extinguished with officers from the Federal Fire Service.
