Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing his ancestral roots in Osun State as a key reason for the endorsement.
This development comes after months of speculation about Adeleke’s political allegiance, with rumors suggesting he might defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, Adeleke has consistently denied such intentions, reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP.
In a statement shared on his official X handle, Adeleke revealed that the endorsement followed a meeting with PDP leaders in Osun State, where he was unanimously endorsed for a second term in 2026.
The PDP leaders also directed all party structures in the state to disseminate the resolutions and rally support for Adeleke’s five-point agenda.
The endorsement of Tinubu’s re-election bid was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Osogbo.
The communiqué was jointly signed by Governor Adeleke, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, Senator Lere Oyewumi, and 24 other party leaders.
According to the communiqué, Adeleke’s decision to remain in the PDP followed strong opposition within the APC ranks to his proposed defection.
The party expressed concern over the manner in which some APC members castigated Adeleke on national television and social media, even though he never formally confirmed plans to leave the PDP.
The PDP in Osun State emphasized that both the party and the governor enjoy broad popularity in the state, surpassing any other political party.
They urged Adeleke to forge ahead with governance and implementation of his administration’s development agenda.
