Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan faced a brief disruption on Thursday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja when immigration officers stopped her from boarding a flight to the United Kingdom. She was reportedly traveling with her husband to attend her stepson’s graduation ceremony abroad.
According to reports by Premium Times, airport officials informed the senator that her name had been placed on a travel watch list, allegedly at the request of the leadership of the National Assembly.
She was told she had been flagged as a potential flight risk, prompting immediate confusion and concern at the airport.
Sources familiar with the matter insisted there was no existing court order restricting her movement. They emphasized that Senator Natasha had consistently attended all of her court proceedings and had no known legal barriers to international travel.
The delay lasted nearly an hour, during which several calls were made to clarify her status. Eventually, her passport was cleared, and she was allowed to board the flight to the UK. Her family has since expressed hope that there will be no further disruptions to her travels.
The senator is expected to return to Nigeria in two weeks.
