The US State Department has approved a potential $4.67 billion sale of National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) and related defense equipment to Egypt.

The package includes four AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel radars, 100 AMRAAM-Extended Range missiles, 100 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs, 600 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II tactical missiles, and training missiles.

The deal also includes fire distribution centers, electro-optical/infrared systems, Tactical Control Center systems, encrypted communication gear, and classroom trainers.

The sale aims to enhance Egypt’s capability to detect and respond to current and future air threats, supporting the country’s security and stability in the Middle East.

The US government stated that the proposed sale will improve Egypt’s security and reinforce Washington’s strategic ties with Cairo, a key non-NATO ally.

RTX Corporation will serve as the prime contractor for the sale, which is expected to have no adverse impact on US defense readiness.

The NASAMS system, developed jointly by the US and Norway, is designed to intercept aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles with precision.

American officials and private contractors will provide engineering, technical, and logistical support to help integrate and maintain the system within Egypt’s military.

This arms deal strengthens Cairo’s defenses while reinforcing Washington’s influence and commitment to regional stability in the Middle East.
