The Akure Division of the Court of Appeal in Ondo State has upheld the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the winner of the November 16, 2024, governorship election.
The three-member panel of the Appeal Court, led by Justice Yargata Nimpar, unanimously ruled in Aiyedatiwa’s favor, affirming the decision of the lower Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The tribunal had earlier validated the governor’s victory in the November 16, 2024, election.
The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, describing it as devoid of merit.
This decision further solidifies Aiyedatiwa’s electoral victory, which was also upheld by the Supreme Court in March 2025.
The Supreme Court dismissed Ajayi’s appeal, stating that the suit was “statute-barred” due to being filed beyond the 14-day deadline set by law for such election disputes.
