The Federal Government of Nigeria has conferred the prestigious national honour of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all members of the Nigeria women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their record-breaking fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.

In recognition of their historic achievement, each player of the victorious squad will receive a cash reward of $100,000 and a flat. Members of the technical crew were also awarded $50,000 each, in addition to being honoured with national awards.
The gesture comes after D’Tigress defeated Mali 78–64 in the final of the 2025 AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, clinching their seventh continental title and extending their unbeaten streak in the competition to 29 games.

The national honour and financial rewards underscore the government’s appreciation of the team’s dedication, excellence, and the pride they have brought to the nation through their dominance in African basketball.
This recognition places D’Tigress among the most celebrated teams in Nigeria’s sporting history, with players and coaches hailed for their commitment and consistency on the court.
