Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, returned to the country on Monday to a warm reception following their record-breaking fifth consecutive title at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The triumphant team arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard two chartered flights, accompanied by coaching staff and officials.

On hand to receive the champions were officials of the National Sports Commission, the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, representatives from the Association of Nigerian Women in Sports, and enthusiastic supporters who gathered to celebrate the team’s remarkable feat.
D’Tigress secured the championship on Sunday night with a commanding 78–64 victory over Mali at the Palais des Sports de Treichville. The win marked Nigeria’s seventh AfroBasket title overall and an unprecedented fifth in a row—further cementing their dominance on the continent.

With this victory, the team extended their unbeaten run in the competition to 29 games, a streak that dates back to 2015.
Their return home was met with joy and national pride, as the players and coaching crew brought back not only the championship trophy but also a legacy of excellence that continues to inspire women and girls across Nigeria and Africa.
