The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed the incident, stating that radar contact was lost with the Z9 airforce helicopter.

Julius Debrah, President John Mahama’s chief of staff, described the crash as a national tragedy and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.

“The president and government extend our condolences and sympathies to the families of our comrades and the servicemen who died in service to the country,” Debrah said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
