The Sokoto State Police Command has disbursed ₦14.1 million to families of officers who died or were injured in the line of duty, as part of ongoing welfare efforts by the Nigeria Police Force.
The funds—totalling ₦14,120,491.70 were disbursed on Thursday at the Command Headquarters in Sokoto under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme, Group Life Assurance, and Group Personal Accident Scheme.
Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Umar Abubakar Sokoto, who handed out the cheques during an emotional presentation ceremony.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Commissioner, DCP Abubakar extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and commended the courage of those affected while serving the nation.
“This is not just a cheque—it is a message of remembrance and appreciation,” he said.“We hope this support will lay the foundation for something meaningful and honour the memory of our fallen heroes.”
He also urged beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely to ensure long-term security and stability for their families amid current economic challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Attahiru Sulaiman thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the police leadership for the timely intervention.
“We are deeply grateful for this support. It will help us begin to rebuild and secure the future of the families left behind,” he said.
The Sokoto State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired officers, as well as the families of those who paid the ultimate price in service to Nigeria.
