The Defence Headquarters has dismissed reports claiming that notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, has surrendered to the military.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye speaking at a briefing on Thursday in Abuja, said there was no truth to the reports.
Turji, who operates mainly in Zamfara and Sokoto states, is wanted for allegedly masterminding multiple deadly attacks on communities across the North-West.

Recent media claims suggested that the bandit leader had laid down his arms and freed 32 kidnapped victims as part of a peace deal facilitated by Islamic clerics in Zamfara State.

Kangye, however, clarified that the military had not received any such surrender from Turji.
