The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has provided further clarification on the incident involving Ms. Comfort Emmanson, a passenger of Ibom Air at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MM2) in Lagos State on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
Emmanson was allegedly violently removed from the airplane, leading to her clothes being torn and her private parts exposed, sparking outrage over human rights violations.
According to FAAN, its Aviation Security (AVSEC) team was not initially involved in the incident. Instead, Ibom Air’s security personnel and the Bi-Courtney Aviation Security Team handled the initial response, as MM2 is a privately-owned terminal operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited.
FAAN’s AVSEC team only became involved after Emmanson was transferred to the Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit for official documentation and was handed over to the Nigerian police for prosecution.
Within the MM2 Terminal, classified as a Private Tenant Restricted Area, FAAN AVSEC officers are responsible for passenger and baggage screening at designated checkpoints, while the Bi-Courtney Aviation Security Team oversees general terminal security operations.
FAAN emphasized its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and professionalism across all airport facilities nationwide.
