The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami II (rtd), has died at the age of 81.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, the revered monarch passed away on Saturday night at a hospital in London after an illness.

A retired military officer, the late Emir once served as the Military Governor of Bauchi State between 1984 and 1985 during the administration of then Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Nasir Idris expressed deep shock at the passing of the traditional ruler, describing him as a father figure and elder statesman who dedicated his life to the welfare of his people.
“The government extends its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire people of Kebbi State. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the Kebbi State Government said in a condolence message.
The Emir is survived by four wives and seven children. Burial arrangements will be announced by the family and Zuru Emirate Council in due course.
