The father of Comfort Emmanson, a passenger involved in a controversy with Ibom Air, has demanded justice and compensation for his family after his daughter was allegedly stripped naked and humiliated by the airline’s staff and security officials.
Godwin Emmanson Mbok, a tailor from Akwa Ibom State, expressed his distress and frustration in an interview, questioning why his daughter had to go through such an ordeal simply because he lacks money and influential connections.
Mbok lamented the psychological and financial toll the incident has taken on his family, stating, “They stripped my child naked. She didn’t steal, just for a mere argument.”
He condemned both Ibom Air and the Akwa Ibom State Government for neglecting their responsibility to ensure justice, emphasizing that compensation must be paid regardless of how the incident is portrayed.
The controversy began when Emmanson had a disagreement with an Ibom Air hostess over switching off her phone during a flight from Uyo to Lagos. The situation escalated, and she was dragged off the plane, partially exposed, and later arrested and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with many criticizing the handling of the case as “selective justice”.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has since condemned the release of the footage and promised to sanction those responsible.
The minister also announced the withdrawal of criminal complaints against Emmanson and confirmed that the lifetime flying ban imposed by Ibom Air would be lifted.
