AC Milan are on the verge of signing Nigerian striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen after both clubs reached a verbal agreement, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The deal, now at an advanced stage, is structured as a loan with a €30m buy option clause, which will not be mandatory. Milan are currently preparing the formal documents and are in direct talks with the player’s representatives to finalise personal terms — the last major step before completion.
“AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen preparing formal documents after verbal agreement for Victor Boniface. Loan deal with €30m buy option clause not mandatory. AC Milan now in direct talks with Victor Boniface’s agent over personal terms, key final step to get the deal done,” Romano confirmed on X.
Boniface, 24, has already accepted Milan’s contract proposal, giving the Rossoneri the green light to proceed. Romano further reported that negotiations are continuing over the finer details of the deal’s structure.

The move comes as something of a surprise. Milan’s striker search was previously centred on Rasmus Højlund and Dusan Vlahovic, but behind the scenes the club had quietly advanced discussions for Boniface. Reports from Sky Italia and Gianluca Di Marzio suggest that optimism is growing in Milan, with Leverkusen leaning towards accepting the proposal — helped by Boniface’s desire to make the switch to Serie A.
German journalist Florian Plettenberg also indicated that Leverkusen are “leaning towards yes,” describing the offer as “good” and highlighting the Nigerian forward’s willingness to join Allegri’s side.

Boniface played a crucial role for Leverkusen last season, scoring 11 Bundesliga goals and adding one assist. Known for his pace, strength, and pressing ability, he was instrumental in Xabi Alonso’s system, though Leverkusen ultimately fell short in defending their Bundesliga crown.
For Milan, securing Boniface would mark a shift in their transfer strategy, especially after stalled talks for Højlund and the difficulty of negotiating Juventus striker Vlahovic’s high valuation. The Rossoneri now view Boniface as the right fit to lead their attack in the new era under manager Massimiliano Allegri.
