Madagascar and Sudan will battle for a spot in the final of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024 when they face off in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.

This will be the second-ever CHAN meeting between the two nations. Their first clash came in the group stage of the 2022 edition, where Madagascar defeated Sudan 3-0 in a decisive match to advance alongside Ghana.

Madagascar are preparing to face East African opposition for the fourth time in CHAN history, having recorded one win, one draw, and one loss — their only defeat coming earlier in this tournament against hosts Tanzania. Sudan, meanwhile, are the first side Madagascar will encounter twice at CHAN.
For Sudan, the tie marks their third encounter with Southern African opposition. They previously beat Zambia in the 2018 quarter-finals before falling to Madagascar in the 2022 group stage.

Both teams have scored six goals in this year’s competition, though Madagascar have played one game more. The island nation have registered 18 shots on target with a 14.63% conversion rate, while Sudan have managed 12 shots on target with a more efficient 18.75% success rate.
The stakes could not be higher: the winner will become the 12th different nation to reach a CHAN final, continuing the recent tradition of debutant finalists. In the last four tournaments, at least one nation has played in the final for the first time — including Senegal and Algeria in 2022, Mali in 2020, and both Morocco and Nigeria in 2018.
